About Shu Yamamoto's "The Thirty-Three Stations of the Cat Road"
Masterpieces of Ukiyo-e Transformed into a Cat's Journey!
"The Thirty-Three Stations of the Cat Road," created as an NFT collection, is an homage to Utagawa Hiroshige's masterpiece ukiyo-e "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido."
This work depicts cats traveling through the post towns along the Tokaido road from Edo to Kyoto, instead of humans. While faithfully recreating Hiroshige's original composition and scenery, it creates a unique humor and charm by replacing all the characters with cats.
The title "The Thirty-Three Stations of the Cat Road" is a play on "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido," but it actually consists of 35 pieces, including the starting point in Edo and the endpoint in Kyoto.
Cats as Characters:
The most distinctive feature is that all people and horses depicted in Hiroshige's "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido" are replaced with cats.
The expressions and gestures of cats playing various roles such as travelers, merchants, daimyo processions, and couriers are depicted comically.
